turning 60

not only did we just celebrate my grandma's 80th birthday - but now my mom and her twin sister hit a milestone - the big 6.0.
in order embarrass them and let them know how old sixty really is - the family all joined the red hat society for the day and went out to lunch.  all seventeen of us.

and they loved it.

ps- i celebrated two other birthdays this week: a special happy birthday to my seester and one of my best friends.

spring has sprung

it reached 80 here yesterday.  and although that sounds hot, it was actually a gorgeous day.  no humidity and no bugs.  unfortunately i was sick and running a fever, but i managed to drag myself out on the deck for an hour to read.  i think my face might have even gotten a little sun.
i'm out of the office today too since my fever was still with me as of 10pm last night, but i'm pretty sure i'm back to being healthy.

i have already raked the yard and done a load of laundry.
next up i'm heading over to westlakes to pick up some potted plants.

if spring is here, then it's time to get my 'plant' on.
might as well take advantage of my sick day.

how do i know spring is here? hints are everwhere:
flowers at my brother's house

paper flowers on my mantle

got our deck furniture out from the basement

blooms on the trees

magazine covers are looking "springy"

grass is getting green

happy st. patrick's day!
this is one of my favorite holidays and in kc - it's a pretty big deal.
last saturday, the mister and i met up some our friends for a smaller celebration in the suburb we live in.
first a parade and then a pub crawl.

bachelorette

i happen to be a bridal expert.  i have been in TEN weddings.
and i have the dresses to prove it. (think 27 dresses)
for awhile i was the walking example of 'always a bridesmaid, never the bride.'
so let's just say, that i know my way around a bachelorette party - and i was excited for my next.
when lucky mr. cox came along it was my turn for the showers, bachelorette, rehearsals...

that was two and half years ago.
it was also the last time my sorority sisters came to kansas city.
until now.

it is miss bauman's turn to get married and they decided to head my way from st. louis for the whole weekend.
craziness ensued.
i called my dear husband to come pick me up - at 4 in the morning - 30 minutes from where we live.
i am still so tired that i can't even relive the details.

so i may hang up my hat at being a bridal expert - my body can't take it.

chevron

a pattern everyone has seen - - think charlie brown's sweater:

but i am loving it.
now, i swear i see it everywhere and have been trying to find a way to incorporate it in my house.

i found the perfect chevron fabric online that would go in my office aaaand
score - it was on sale.
so i bought 3 yards and plan to make a valence for the window.

since i don't sew - i'll let you know how it turns out.

deflated

this is the email i got this week about the job i wanted:
Brooke,
Thank you for interviewing for the Marketing and PR Manager position at the xxxxxxx xxxxxxx xxx. We truly appreciate the time you shared with us.
With the ever-changing day-to-day outside influences and environment, we have re-arranged the priorities of the departments and this position is no longer available. However, we do have two new positions available: a Membership Coordinator and an Administrative Representative.  If you or someone you know may be interested in either of these two positions please let me know and I will forward the job description.
Please let me know if you have any questions or would like to refer someone for the new positions.
You have amazing talents and wish you all the best in your job search!
 xxxx xxxxxxxx
Director of Marketing and Membership

i feel better that they didn't choose someone else, but just couldn't fill the position.  still sucks though.  i believe in the whole ‘everything happens for a reason’ thing.  i wasn’t meant to get that job.  the problem is i keep trying to figure out why i wasn’t meant to get that job.
back to the drawing board.  onward and upward.

master your craft (#3)

i joined a craft circle.

on sunday we had our first "gathering" and i made these:

i can't wait to bust them out for next christmas!  we're meeting again in april and i'm already excited.  we have a craft guru (my seester) and a home ec teacher.  we're in good hands and it's fun too.

all the other girls made burlap wreaths but since i had recently finished my yarn wreath i decided to veer off.  it is literally the most simple project ever.

take a foam tree and start hot gluing coffee filters all over it.

that's it.
told you it was easy.

work through the boredom

what happens when you were supposed to go out of town for the weekend and then your husband has to work and ruins all of your plans?
you have two days of nothing planned - which never happens - and decide to start on a big project.
you go to lowe's and buy primer and trim paint and get started on a project that you have been wanting to do since you moved in.

the primer is finished in the basement! now i'm going to have to caulk all the seams and mud all the nail holes. but then it should be ready to paint!
sick of my basement yet?  i am.

my hair affair

at work my office goes to out to lunch every other wednesday to try new restaurants and to get away from our computers for a bit.  this week we tried a new pizza place on the plaza.
the food was good - blah, blah, blah.
but what i REALLY loved was my waitress's hair.
it is the shade i'm really going for.

notice that my hair has gone from this:

to this:

which i think is a bit dark.  i want more of a lighter tone.
so i asked her what she uses. clairol color perfect 10 - auburn flash.
i'm sold.
i'll let you know when i'm ready for my next dye job, because this is going to be it!

i'm running out of breath to hold

as i mentioned before i am looking for a career move.
i interviewed for a manager of public relations and marketing position back in january.
it's my dream to have a job the involves pr AND marketing together, so imagine my disappointment when i never heard back.
then out of nowhere, (4 weeks later) the lady called me back in for a second interview.  only one month later after i had lost all hope.  whatev.
so i went in on friday and spoke with 3 other girls that also work in the department. (i say girls and not ladies, because i'm pretty sure that i was older or the same age as at least two of them.)
success!  it was a great interview.  no nerves, no stumbles... i felt confident when i left.
they said i would know something by the beginning of this week.
it's wednesday.
i have been patrolling my phone and email like a crazy woman.  let's just say i ran for the phone when i wasn't entirely done using the bathroom.
call it commitment.
but alas, no word.
and it is freaking killing me.

say a prayer and cross your fingers.
