unhelpful

i have off so many days in a row during the week
that i could REALLY get a lot done around here...
if i weren't just days away from having a baby.

spray for weeds?  ronnie doesn't want me breathing that in.
mow the yard?  its kind of a bumpy ride and hurts my back.
paint the trim?
spray paint a light fixture?
paint our little kid's table?  sorry, no painting for me.
basically i'm stuck cleaning house,
doing laundry or running errands.
of course, these things are necessary,
but it kills me that i can't get all the other stuff done.
especially when we're so close to having this baby
and all i want in life is to get. shit. done. before she gets here.

oh well.
i need to let it go.

i DID manage to pack my bag, brette's bag, finish a few freezer meals
and make the sweetest little thank you's for the hospital,
which makes me feel a little bit more ready.

my bff also cut down one of her trees and saved me a stump
which is now currently living at my house.
my dad has agreed to make the stump side table his new project,
so i'm excited that its actually going to get done for the nursery.

and last weekend brette and i spent a couple days at my parent's
so ronnie and two of his friends could work on
finishing up more of the downstairs.
i'm happy to report that all of the baseboards and quarter round is up
and all of the walls have been primed.

i think the next step is spraying the trim and painting the walls.
if only that was a super fast and easy job,
but i know it will take time too.

in the meantime,
i'll play with brette and wait for this baby to make her arrival.

little bits

we have had a few smaller things on our list
to get done around the house.
some of them i've knocked out myself
and i'm hoping that the ones i need ronnie's help with
we can finish up over the weekend.
we have no plans.  knock on wood.

first, the things i've done:
i white washed some of the downstairs fireplace.
i didn't want to do the whole thing like i did in our bedroom,
but some of the bricks were way too orange and i hate that.

i also ran into target one day to grab diapers,
(target had an amazing diaper sale)
and i saw this side table on clearance.
i got it for $20, originally $70.
yes, i'll take it.
but please imagine...
reid and brette are in the cart and there is
no where to put this table, so i am holding it and
trying to steer the cart full of kids.
i looked crazy.

originally i wanted a stump table,
but honestly i'm tired of waiting for it to get done.
this is a perfect second option.
a little wood and a little gold.
exactly what reid's room needed.

and speaking of new furniture,
we also picked up this new chair for our front room.
a friend of my brother's sold it to me.
i didn't tell ronnie and when he saw it he
hated it because he said it didn't "go with this house."
i proved him wrong and once again told him
to do the heavy lifting and i'll take care of the rest.
(wink)
and now he really likes it.

there are two projects i would like done this weekend.
one, is hanging some hooks by the front door.
we still have our coat rack out,
which i still totally love, but
it's not safe for kiddos.
brette has literally knocked it down three times.
luckily, its never landed on her, but i'm over worrying about it.

i bought these from home goods but i need ronnie's help,
because the way i need them latched to the wall will take some rigging.
i need it to be more sturdy than what they are, so we
can use them for our coats and for company.

i plan on hanging four of them across this half wall,
right by the front door.

the second thing i need ronnie to do is put in one or two
electrical outlets in the floor in our front room.
if you look at this picture again, you'll see i have lamps on
either side of our couch but nowhere to plug them into.
i'd like to hide an outlet in our floor under the couch
so i can actually USE these lamps.
i swear, the electrical jobs are always the last to get done.

and that should do it!
not a hard list at all.

the big jobs are still lurking though...
baseboards in our family room,
then priming and painting.
but i think it looks so good with the wood planking.
i can't wait to see this done.

i love all the small finishes.
it really makes our house a home.

hopefully shit gets done and i'll have another update soon.
fingers crossed.

our tribal/woodland nursery

i've been hard at work trying to
pick up pieces for the nursery when i find them.
it's pretty close to being done so
i went ahead and snapped a few photos to show our progress.
so far, almost everything was bought with our gift cards,
but with only $7 left, i'm afraid the rest is up to us.

if you remember, i wanted to do a tribal vibe.
lots of black, white, and gold with some color
thrown in through the accents.

and here's where i've ended up:

(ps- i totally bought gold decal triangles for the changing table
and somehow they've been misplaced.  i can't find them anywhere and
i'm super bummed about it. i'm thinking they got thrown away by accident.
i might cry.)

things get a little bare on the other side of the room
because i'm still looking for my side table and curtains.
i still have a stump table on the brain,
but the ones i've found are over $200
and that. is. not. happening.
i might have to give up on that dream.

the rug is a lot of my color and i wish it were double
in size but for $6, i'm not complaining.

i've been searching for the perfect curtains,
but i'm considering just buying fabric and having some made.
how cute are these options?

i found a gold bull's skull today and i'll
probably go back to buy it.
i wasn't sure if i needed it,
but after putting the room together
i think another gold accent piece would be nice.

and i found a second artificial cactus online that
i'd like to order to put by the lamp.
its only like $10 so i'm pretty sure it will be on
its way soon.

i really wanted a stuffed fox,
but so far, i haven't found any in stores and the
ones on etsy are kind of expensive.
i doubt this happens, but
i'll put it on my list for future gift ideas.
i think that will basically finish off the nursery.
i'm pretty excited to check this off my list
and add another room to our completed file in this house.

now we just need that baby...

nursery time

after yesterday's post about our house,
i realized that i am super ready to
get that nursery DONE.
or at least started.

we're buying the same crib we did for B,
because it will grow with each of the girls
and eventually it acts as the headboard for a full-size bed.
i never plan on buying another.
its the graco benton 5-in-1 convertible crib,
found at walmart.
its on the top of my list.
my brother has eden's crib mattress,
and i think he's going to let me have that.
score.

we already have a dresser from our guest room,
but its not very cute,
so i think i'm going to hide it in the closet.
we used brette's dresser as a changing table too,
but since we don't have that option this time,
sheri (ronnie's sister) offered up their old one.
it's a natural wood color and i like the idea of
mixing white with natural wood.
i was even thinking of doing a little spray
or if they don't want it changed, i could use decals.
like this, but only smaller and just white triangles.

plus i want to add a side table/stump next to our rocking chair.
something like this:

as for decorations,
i'm really into the native american/tribal vibe.
and i love the idea of using gold, black and white
along with the natural wood and pops of color.
i'm thinking a lot of the "color" could come from
a really cool aztec rug, but i haven't been able to find one yet.
here are some pics from my pinterest board for her.

and i have these juuust waiting for me on esty.

instead of doing a gallery wall,
i think i'm just going to buy these two prints in a large size
and have them take up my one large wall.
this room is a little different because
one whole wall is windows and a window bench.
it cuts down on how you can set up the furniture
and your wall space.
but i'm excited to get started.
now i just have to bust out the ol' credit card and
tell ronnie about it later.
